Amanda Seyfried on Trading Tinseltown Glamour for Life on the Farm
The star gives reasons why she traded Tinseltown glamour for life on the farm.
For the Hollywood machine and its frenzied pace, there is Upstate New York with serene farm life: Amanda Seyfried is said to have discovered the perfect antidote. She lives here surrounded by her husband, two children, and a lively group of animals; the actress has created a peaceful sanctuary far from Los Angeles's flashing lights.
"I moved upstate long before I started a family, and staying here was the best decision I ever made," Seyfried told Forbes. "It's perfect for privacy, peace, and being closer to nature. Life here feels more balanced compared to the city." She added that this had proved to be particularly important for her psychological well-being.
That, though Seyfried also clearly still loves acting, her peaceful home life offers grounding contrast to the high-energy demands of film sets and press events. "Having this peaceful place to call home helps me adapt to the faster pace of city life. It's my reset button.".
Outside of work, Seyfried spends her days taking care of her farm animals, including her favorite Australian Shepherd, Finn. Adapting to farm life wasn't without its challenges, but she's grown to love the rhythm of it. "There was definitely a learning curve, but now it feels exhilarating and purposeful."
She even relishes the muddy boots and daily chores, saying, “Trips to the city are like fun little escapes, but I’m always excited to come home to feed the animals and soak up the peace. That’s when I’m truly happiest.”
Seyfried isn’t the only celebrity swapping urban chaos for quieter pastures. Actor Jason Segel, once a Los Angeles resident, now lives in Ojai, California. For Segel, it came down to needing to think more and create more. "Art is supposed to reflect what's happening in your life," Segel said, "and I realized I wasn't experiencing much at all. Moving gave me the space to think about who I want to be as a person and as an artist.".
For Amanda Seyfried, this balance between Hollywood and home has proved life-changing: sometimes stepping away from the glamour is the real luxury.
