It Seems Like Angelina Jolie, With The Trailer For Maria, Is Channeling The Haunting Essence Of Opera Legend Maria Callas.

Angelina Jolie fully inhabits the iconic persona of opera singer Maria Callas in the just-released trailer for Maria, the latest biopic by director Pablo Larraín. Maria premiers in some theaters November 27 before its December 11th drop on Netflix. Maria follows Callas's last days in Paris while investigating her life's legacy and internal turmoil.

In the movie, Jolie, 49, stars in the intriguing life of the American-Greek soprano whose voice covered three octaves of range. Callas, who enthralled people on earth, died in 1977 aged 53. Larraín also directed the famous 20th-century women of Jacqueline Kennedy in Jackie (2016) and Princess Diana in Spencer (2021). He turns his lens to Callas' final days, reflective.

At the Venice Film Festival premiere of the film, Jolie talked about how nervous she was regarding this grueling role, talking about how her sons helped her in her first time training in vocal performance. "I was terribly nervous; I spent almost seven months training," she remembered. "My first time singing, my sons blocked the door so no one else could come in, and I was shaking."

In Maria, Jolie's vocals are spliced with original recordings of Callas' singing, after extensive opera and Italian training. She said supporting direction from Larraín was "incredibly helpful.".
